Forty firms eye Ugandan Oil

Wednesday, 28th May, 2008

FORTY oil companies have applied for permits to carry out exploration and production of oil and gas in Uganda, the energy ministry has said, reports Ibrahim Kasita of The New Vision.

Fred Kabanda, the principle geologist, said the firms were eying the remaining four exploration areas.
“The successful discovery of oil and gas has interested many companies. At the moment 40 firms have applied for licences,” he said.
“We have a total of nine exploration areas but five were given out. We shall use competitive bidding to issue the licences.”
